Timothy Fordham Stanfield
Timothy Fordham Stanfield, an Associate, is based at Colodny, Fass, Talenfeld, Karlinsky, Abate & Webb's Tallahassee office. There, he focuses on Lobbying and Governmental Consulting, and often works closely with the Firm’s Insurance Regulatory Law Division.
Mr. Stanfield provides an array of lobbying and governmental consulting services to the Firm’s clients, including issue identification, drafting of bills and amendments, procurement of bill sponsors, and driving initiatives through the legislative process.
Prior to joining Colodny, Fass, Talenfeld, Karlinsky, Abate & Webb, Mr. Stanfield held the position of Assistant General Counsel to the Florida League of Cities (“League”), which he served as lead lobbyist on a wide range of municipal government issues, including insurance, finance, taxation, growth management and utilities. Most recently, he represented the League in relation to major policy issues such as the BP Deepwater Horizon incident and Sunrail, Florida’s commuter rail initiative, Sunrail.
Mr. Stanfield frequently testifies before the Florida Legislature and various State Executive Agencies. While at the League, he led its response to tax-related legislation, along with law enforcement and first responder pension reform. He also worked extensively on key issues such as water quality, water reuse, affordable housing, growth management, transportation, building codes and construction, and energy.
In his role with the League, he frequently provided counsel to municipal attorneys, as well as worked with the organization’s membership and related committees to develop legislative policy, much of which specifically dealt with finance and taxation issues.
Also an experienced regulatory advocate, Mr. Stanfield has handled successful administrative rule challenges, such as proposed water management district regulations that would have jeopardized municipal control over water reuse systems.
As part of his work with Colodny, Fass, Talenfeld, Karlinsky, Abate & Webb’s Insurance Regulatory Law Division, he assists clients with setting up captive insurance companies.
A member of the Florida Bar, Mr. Stanfield earned his Juris Doctor from Florida Coastal School of Law and his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from the University of Florida.
He is a former member of the Florida Association of Intergovernmental Relations Board of Directors.
